PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a damping system in which the hanging length of a mass body can be reduced while setting the period of pendulum movement of the damping system to be a predetermined period. SOLUTION: The damping system 1 for controlling vibrations of an object to be damped includes: an upper structural part 10 fixed to the object to be damped; a first mass body 12 hung from the upper structural part 10; a lower structural part 20 fixed to the object to be damped; a support member 24 connected swingably to the lower structural part 20; a second mass body 22 which is supported by a support member 24, is located on the upper side of the lower structural part 20 and is lighter than the first mass body 12; a hinge mechanism 30 which has a rotation shaft 31 arranged in the direction intersecting the vertical direction and, thereby, connects the first mass body 12 and the second mass body 22 relatively movably in the vertical direction; and a damper 40 which reduces the speed of relative movement to the object to be damped of the first mass body 12 or the second mass body 22.
