The present power transmission device performs power transmission processing for wirelessly transmitting power by electromagnetic field resonant coupling using a resonant circuit. When the resonant frequency of the resonant circuit, which is set so as to become equal to the frequency of a transmission signal output as a transmission power, is shifted during the power transmission, the present power transmission device detects the direction of the shift of the resonant frequency and controls the power transmission processing according to the detection result. This makes it possible to accurately determine not only the presence or absence of a foreign object present within the range of power transmission but also whether or not the foreign object affects the wireless power transmission, enabling the reliability of a wireless power transmission system to be improved. |
