摘要 Optical fibre sensing system comprising an optical sensing fibre arranged over a surface area in a series of looping shapes. The fibre may be arranged over the surface in a continuous path without crossing itself and may be further arranged to: increase the sensing sensitivity; increase the system spatial resolution; increase the system frequency response. The fibre may be deployed at least partially in a planar arrangement providing directional sensing. Preferably the fibre is deployed in a multidimensional array. At least part of the fibre may be arranged in a folded three omega or double eight configurations. The fibre may be arranged over a process vessel to: listen to noise generated by the process; monitor changes in the process; acoustically image the process; and detect leaks in the vessel. The system may further comprise an interferometer where the system may be a distributed acoustic sensing system. Also an optical fibre sensing system comprising an optical sensing fibre arranged over a surface area in a spiral pattern, where the spiral may be a logarithmic spiral pattern. Suggested uses include acoustic camera and acoustic telescope. Also fibre optic cable arrangements, where the fibre is arranged to form a pattern comprising U-shaped lobes.
