In this secondary battery, the electrode active material consists mainly of an organic compound that contains, in the constituent unit, a conjugated dithione structure represented by general formula (I) or a dione structure represented by general formula (II) or (III), while the electrolyte contains a compound that contains alkoxy groups in the structure, said compound being represented by general formula (IV). In the general formulae, n1 to n4 are each an integer of 1 or more; and R1 to R8 are each an arbitrary substituent. Thus, the stabilization of an electrode active material can be attained, and a secondary battery which exhibits high energy density and high output and which, even after repeated charge-discharge cycles, retains excellent cycle characteristics with little capacity loss can be obtained. |
