<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To optimize an input method by providing sensors at the backside and sides of a terminal housing, using information such as the number of fingers holding the terminal and contact positions and presuming a user's holding manner of the terminal and a movable range of a finger. <P>SOLUTION: This portable terminal includes sensors provided at the backside and sides of a placement surface on which a keyboard is placed, outputs coordinate information sensing a contact, and detects a holding state from the output coordinate information.
