This substrate for a display device is provided with: a transparent substrate (5); a light-shielding frame part (2) which is provided upon the transparent substrate (5), which is formed in a frame region (4) surrounding a display region (3), and which includes carbon as a main colouring material thereof; a first transparent resin layer (6) formed upon the transparent substrate (5) having the frame part (2) formed thereon; a black matrix (BM) which is formed upon the first transparent resin layer (6), which segments the display region (3) into a plurality of matrix apertures, and which includes an organic pigment as a main colouring material thereof; and a second transparent resin layer (7) formed upon the first transparent resin layer (6) having the black matrix (BM) formed thereon.
