<p>Apparatus for providing variable electrical characteristics responsive to a pressure applied to the apparatus is disclosed along with a corresponding method of manufacture. The apparatus is for use as a user interface for an electronic device such as a musical instrument. It comprises a first electrode 100, a second electrode 140, and an electrically conductive pressure sensitive layer 120 (such as a piezoresistive film) arranged between the first and second electrodes and arranged for being electrically connected to both the first and second electrodes, wherein the pressure sensitive layer has an electrical resistance that varies according to a level of pressure applied to the electrically conductive pressure sensitive layer. The apparatus further comprises at least one electrically insulating spacer layer 110, 130 arranged between the pressure sensitive layer and one of the first and second electrodes, preventing electrical current flowing from the one or more of the first and second electrodes and the pressure sensitive layer when no pressure is applied to the apparatus. Also disclosed is a flexible electronic interface device for operating a computer and a corresponding method of manufacture.</p> |
