<p>A lifting apparatus 10 comprises a ground engaging first support arrangement 12 and an article lifting second support arrangement 22. The second support arrangement 22 moves pivotally relative to the first support arrangement 12 to lift the article, such as a mobility scooter 100. The first and second support arrangements 12, 22 may be L-shaped, each comprising an elongate component 14, 24 and a transverse connecting member 116, 26. The first and second support arrangements 12, 22 may be pivotally connected at the distal ends of the transverse connecting members 116, 26 by pivot member 32. Drive means such as one or more hydraulic rams 42 or screw actuators may pivot the first and second support arrangements 12, 22 relative to one another. A carrying assembly 150 may be pivotally attached to a free end of the elongate component 24 of the second support arrangement 22. A carrying assembly 150 may be a frame 62 with rollers 68 or a platform (82 fig. 6) and may include a locating member or pin 70 for locating the article on the carrying assembly 150. The first support arrangement 12 may include rollers, wheels or castors 56. The elongate component (114 fig. 6) of the first support arrangement 12 may be telescopic. The lifting apparatus 10 may be used to load a mobility scooter 100 into a car 102.</p> |
