Avoidance and braking assistant for motor vehicles, having a sensor system (10) for sensing the traffic surroundings of the vehicle, an actuator system (12) for making interventions into a steering system, and a braking system of the vehicle, and having an electronic control device (14) in which an emergency avoidance function (16) is implemented which checks, on the basis of the data supplied by the sensor system (10), whether an emergency avoidance manoeuvre is necessary, and then acts on the dynamics of the vehicle by means of the actuator system (12), in order to assist the vehicle driver in initiating and/or executing the emergency avoidance manoeuvre, characterised in that in the first phase of an avoidance manoeuvre the emergency avoidance function (16) intervenes exclusively in the lateral dynamics, and decides only after this phase whether an intervention also takes place in the longitudinal dynamics. |
