565,110. Soot-blowers. BABCOCK & WILCOX, Ltd., and ZOLLER, R. E. July 8, ' 1943, No. 11091. [Class 99 (ii)] In a soot-blower having a rotatable blower tube and in which the distances through which the cleaning fluid must travel from the nozzles 'to the surfaces to be cleaned vary, the velocity of discharge from the nozzles is varied by variably throttling the cleaning fluid, so as to provide a velocity of impact more uniform than if the velocity of discharge were constant. In a blower of the retractable tube type, the tube 10 is rotated throughout its travel during the outer part of which the admission valve 7 is opened by a cam 13. The port 15 in the blower tube is wholly or partly closed in the middle part of the blowing period by an internal projection 21 on the blower tube .casing 5. In another arrangement, throttling takes place on the supply pipe side of the admission valve and is effected by a substantially balanced valve 39, Fig. 4, actuated by a cam 58 on a gear-wheel 57 which drives the blower tube. The device is applicable to a blower tube having rotary motion only. Specification 532,692 is referred to.
