[Class 20 (iii).] A traffic guide line or sign is formed of a number of independent units embedded at spaced intervals in a road or other exposed surface, each unit comprising a small transparent or translucent slab secured in ' a watertight manner above a lamp container. Each unit is rendered watertight by washers of pitch, wax, rubber &c., which are inserted between its component parts, undercut grooves being provided if necessary to ensure complete sealing ; the edge of the translucent slab, which may have a curved or ribbed upper surface and may incorporate a metal grating, is preferably protected by an upstanding rubber washer surrounding it. The units may be mounted flush with the road surface by means of pitch, &c., the intervening space being painted white or filled with opaque blocks or aluminium strips.
