PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water quality evaluation method by which a specific impurity included in highly pure sample water such as ultrapure water can be evaluated without directly analyzing the sample water. SOLUTION: A water quality evaluation method using a water quality evaluation device 1 including a sampling container 10 having an internal space 3 for holding substrates 2 and retaining sample water therein comprises the steps of: placing the substrates 2 in the internal space 3 of the sampling container 10; placing the sample water in the internal space 3 and bringing the sample water into contact with the substrates 2 held in the internal space 3 for collecting an impurity included in the sample water on the substrates 2; retrieving the substrates 2 from the sampling container 10 and analyzing the impurity collected on the substrates 2; and calculating the concentration of the impurity in the sample water held in the internal space 3 in collecting the impurity on the basis of an analysis result obtained in analysis of the impurity.
