A display panel comprises a substrate on which a thin film transistor (TFT) is disposed; a plurality of gate lines disposed on the substrate and connected to the TFTs, a color filter layer disposed on the substrate and the gate lines; a black matrix disposed on the color filter layer, overlapping with the gate lines, and having holes exposing the color filter layer; a first electrode formed on the color filter layer and electrically connected to the TFT; and an image display layer disposed on the first electrode. Since the black matrix overlapping with the gate lines and having holes exposing the color filter layer and a first insulating layer exposing the holes are provided, a pixel defect can be improved without reducing an aperture ratio of the display panel.
