Embodiments of the present invention provide an apparatus and a method for estimating channel information even when the channel information is not accurately known and designing a relay filter based on the estimated information in a two-way relay system where a terminal having a single antenna and a relay exist. According to an embodiment of the present invention, the relay apparatus of a two-way relay system includes: a receiver to receive a signal from at least one terminal; a controller to estimate a channel between the terminals, and calculate a receiver matrix and a precoder based on the received signal; and a transmitter to transmit a signal precoded by the precoder.
