摘要 An encoder for encoding a video stream or an image is described herein. The encoder receives an input video stream and outputs an encoded video stream that can be decoded at a decoder to recover, at least approximately, an instance of the input video stream. The encoder includes an encoding logic reducing a color spectral resolution of the input video stream to a range of colors or color differentials similar to that recognizable by a human eye, whereby an encoding efficiency is increased by the color spectral resolution reducing.

An encoder that receives an input video stream and outputs an encoded video stream that can be decoded at a decoder to recover, at least approximately, an instance of the input video stream, the encoder comprising: an encoding logic configured to perform a process including identifying a color value in the input video stream,determining whether the color value is in the set of core color values defined by a mapping function, wherein the mapping function maps any color value from a plurality of color values to an associated core color value from a set of core color values, and a human vision system model cannot recognize a difference between the color value and the associated core color value,replacing the color value to an associated core color value based on the mapping function if the color value is not in the set of core color values; and an output configured to present a color spectral resolution of the input video stream having a range of colors or color differentials similar to that recognizable by a human eye, wherein an encoding efficiency is increased by the color spectral resolution reducing.
