The present invention relates to a method to produce a built hollow valve (1) of an internal combustion engine comprising a valve stem (2), a valve cone (3) and a valve bottom (4) wherein: (a) the valve cone (3) is pressed in press fit on the valve stem (2) of the hollow valve (1); and (b) the valve cone (3) is welded with the valve stem (2) by a laser beam/electron beam (7), the welding process being performed such that the valve cone (3) is not melted on an outer surface (6) of a surface area (9) to be subsequently tested.
