The Present invention relates to a control method for a hybrid vehicle, and it is an object of the present invention to provide a control method for a hybrid vehicle which can enhance a fuel ratio and an acceleration performance of the vehicle by optimizing engine start conditions in the hybrid vehicle equipped with a gear transmission. In order to achieve the object, the control method for engine start of the hybrid vehicle having an engine and a motor includes the steps of: judging whether to correspond to an engine clutch post-combination condition from a battery state for engine start and a driver′s driving request information during a motor operating state; starting a control for up-shift transmission from the first stage to the second stage when it is in the engine clutch post-combination condition; starting the engine after starting transmission; and combining an engine clutch when transmission is completed.
