Provided are a method and an apparatus for performing gesture based communication services. A first apparatus senses a first motion and receives information on a second motion from a second apparatus located around the first apparatus when the first motion corresponds to a first gesture which belongs to a gesture group wherein the first motion set in advance. The first apparatus performs an event corresponding to a combination of the first gesture and a second gesture when the received information corresponds to the second gesture which belongs to the gesture group set in advance.
