The invention relates to orthodontic adhesives formulated with trimethylolpropane trimethacrylate (TMPTMA) that do not contain BisGMA. These adhesives removed the mutagenic and teratogenic risk caused by the release of bisphenol A and presented an improved performance compared to three commercial adhesives prepared with BisGMA (Adhesive A, Adhesive C and Adhesive B). The invention provides a single-step adhesive and a fluid paste. The adhesives of the invention were compared with two commercial controls and were physically characterized considering: hardness time, adhesion strength, elastic module, sorption and solubility at different pH (6. 8 and 7.7); the obtained characteristics avoid early detachments, white lesions under the appliances and microfiltration; the fluidity was assessed as well as the thickness of the film and were compared with the values obtained from the three commercial adhesives. The storage stability was assessed as well as the thermogravimetric analysis. The ad hesives prepared with TMPTMA are photopolymerizable so that provide enough time to the operator for placing the appliances in a suitable position, the invention being easily manipulated, able to support the orthodontic biomechanics, presenting a low elastic module, enabling transactions of heavy arcs reducing the risk of unwanted appliance detachments, also having a low viscosity, penetrating into the bracket retentions and in those retentions performed with the acid etching in the surface of the enamel. The adhesives actuate in both the base of the appliances and the enamel, the film thickness being minimal and does not alter the prescription of the system. When the appliance is removed at the end of the treatment, this will not damage the structure of the enamel, since the adhesive remains in the enamel, which is easily removed by a rotating device. |
