According to the invention, provision is made for a comparison of the present soot loading with a predetermined soot loading reference value to be performed and, if the soot loading reference value is undershot, for the soot particle loading in the diesel particle filter DPF to be increased in order to adhere to the demanded emission limit value for the number of soot particles.
