<p>Synthetic event data are applied directly to the billing device of a communication system and the resulting charge compared with the correct charge to enable the functionality of the device to be checked. Then real calls are made to enable the correct collection of call charging data to be established which is then rated and compared to the billing device charges to ensure that the network is presenting to the billing device for calculation the correct charging information within the EDR generated by the physical call.</p>
