PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an acrylic copolymer that exhibits both small orientation birefringence and photoelastic birefringence when molded into a film shape and has excellent transparency, heat resistance, and flexibility; and to provide a biaxially oriented film including the acrylic copolymer, and a polarizing plate and a liquid crystal display device including the biaxially oriented film.SOLUTION: An acrylic copolymer according to the present invention includes, as constitutional units, an N-alkyl maleimide unit in an amount of 3 mass% or more and 22 mass% or less, a (meth)alkyl acrylate unit in an amount of 74 mass% or more and 87 mass% or less, and a (meth)benzyl acrylate unit in an amount of 1 mass% or more and 11 mass% or less, where a weight average molecular weight is 0.5×10or more and 2.6×10or less.
