摘要 Provided are a liquid crystal panel and a groove-forming method for an insulating film, with which it is possible to prevent a contaminant from passing through an insulating film formed on a substrate and entering into a liquid crystal layer from the outside. A liquid crystal layer (4) is provided on the second glass substrate (2) side between a first glass substrate (1) and a second glass substrate (2). A first insulating film (11) and a second insulating film (19) are formed in this order on the surface of the first glass substrate (1) on the liquid crystal layer (4) side thereof. The outer edge section of the liquid crystal layer (4) is surrounded by a sealing material (3). A plurality of TFTs are insulated from one another by the first insulating film (11) and the second insulating film (19). A gate insulating film (12) in the second insulating film (19) is formed such that the barrier properties thereof in relation to gas and/or liquid are higher than those of the first insulating film (11). A groove (19a) having a floor section (19b) formed from the same material as some of the material forming the TFTs is provided in part or all of the peripheral edge section of the second insulating film (19) inward of the position where the second insulating film (19) and the sealing material (3) overlap.
