Provided is a method for processing a message in a software-defined network. The method is carried out by a forwarder and the method comprises: receiving an input message; determining a flow to which the input message belongs according to the input message; determining a context identifier set corresponding to the flow to which the input message belongs according to a first corresponding relationship between a flow and a context identifier set, wherein the context identifier set corresponding to each flow in the first corresponding relationship comprises at least one context identifier; determining context corresponding to the context identifier set according to a second corresponding relationship between a context identifier and context; and processing the input message according to the context corresponding to the context identifier set. In the embodiments of the present invention, the flow is not directly associated with the context, and when a plurality of flows share one piece of context, this context does not need to be saved many times. Under the condition of having the same hardware AS the prior art, the embodiments of the present invention will enable the storage capability and the processing capability of the forwarder to be greatly improved.
