<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a charging device that can prevent the occurrence of filming to improve paper handling capacity even when a plurality of types of paper are used.SOLUTION: A charging device 3 is brought into contact with the surface of an image carrier 2 to charge the image carrier 2 at a predetermined polarity, and is used in an image forming apparatus 1 that includes the image carrier 2, and a developing device 4 that develops electrostatic latent images formed on the surface of the image carrier 2, and can transfer images directly from the image carrier 2 to a transfer target material to form the images on a plurality of types of transfer target materials having different lengths from each other in the shaft direction of the image carrier 2. The charging device 3 is composed of an elastic roller to which predetermined bias is applied, and the elastic roller has three or more surface roughnesses in the shaft direction. The surface roughnesses of at least the adjacent surfaces are different from each other; and in terms of the three or more surface roughnesses, the surface roughness at positions with which the ends of a plurality of transfer target materials are brought into contact, is formed larger than the surface roughness of the adjacent surfaces.</p> |
