The invention relates to the field of electrical vehicle lighting equipment, and specifically to driver alert systems which provide for safety when operating a motor vehicle. A device for informing a driver of the necessity to turn on vehicle headlights or position lamps contains a control unit having a circuit for turning on/off elements of vehicle lighting equipment. Introduced into the device are means for monitoring driving conditions, said means being connected to control unit data receipt inputs, and means for warning a driver of the necessity to turn on headlights or position lamps, said means being connected to control unit information outputs. Achieved is a broadening of functional capabilities by means of providing for the monitoring of driving conditions and warning a driver of the need to turn on headlights in order to achieve the greatest degree of driving safety and observation of traffic laws.
