The present invention relates to an apparatus and a method for detecting a fender bender of a vehicle, and, more particularly, to an apparatus and a method for detecting a fender bender of a vehicle which can analyze a sound (sound wave signal) generated when the surface of the vehicle is scratched by a column of a building or by another vehicle when the vehicle moves forward or backward at a low speed, sense the scratch of the vehicle and operates a brake system of the vehicle, thereby minimizing damages of the vehicle. The apparatus for detecting a fender bender of the vehicle according to the present invention includes: a reference signal storing unit for storing a reference signal used to determine a scratch of the surface of the vehicle; an information collecting unit for collecting information of the vehicle through a vehicle communication network; a sound wave sensor for converting a sound wave signal generated from the surface of the vehicle into an electric signal; and a determining unit which compares the sound wave signal converted into the electric signal with the reference signal while the vehicle moves at speed below a threshold, so as to determine whether or not a fender bender occurs.
