PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which prevents unnecessary toner consumption by using toner patch for toner binding as necessary. ! SOLUTION: Thermosoftening electrophotographic toner is applied to a biding-margin part of a sheet, which overlaps a binding-margin part of another sheet, to heat and press the binding margin parts for bonding them. Toner patch PT (PTC, PTM, PTY, PTK) for image adjustment is transferred to a portion of a sheet corresponding to the binding margin, in a non-image area outside an image area PA. In corner binding, one toner pattern is used for sheet binding. In two-spot binding for binding sheets at two spots on a long side of the sheet, the toner patch PT (PTC, PTM, PTY, PTK) is used. In the two-spot binding, four colors of toner are allocated to different positions in a main-scanning direction, and detected by different toner deposition sensors (7C, 7M, 7Y, 7K). !
