PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high reliable thermoelectric element capable of preventing cracks of a thermoelectric conversion unit due to a different of thermal expansion coefficient between the thermoelectric conversion unit and the insulator.SOLUTION: The thermoelectric element includes: a thermoelectric conversion unit; and an insulator enclosing a thermoelectric conversion unit. The thermoelectric conversion unit has a thermal expansion buffer layer. With this, the thermoelectric conversion unit is prevented from being cracked due to the difference of the thermal expansion coefficient between the thermoelectric conversion unit and the insulator.
