A protective insert for the protection of a housing forming a surface of revolution generated by a given profile in a structural component of a timepiece having a given surface hardness, said insert including at least one slide surface having a higher surface hardness than said given surface hardness, said insert including at least one machined portion of revolution about an axis of revolution whose profile is complementary to said given profile, wherein said insert includes at least one complementary, first, flat indexing surface perpendicular to said axis of revolution, and at least one complementary, second, flat indexing surface parallel to said axis of revolution, and in that at least said complementary first indexing surface forms a said slide surface having a higher surface hardness than said given surface hardness.
