The present invention provides: a method for producing renal precursor cells from intermediate mesoderm cells, the method including a step for cultivating intermediate mesoderm cells in a culture medium that contains a TGF&bgr; signal stimulant and a BMP inhibitor; renal precursor cells produced with the method; a drug composition that contains the cells; and a therapeutic agent for renal disease that contains the cells.
