Provided are a rubber composition capable of providing both wear resistance and low heat-buildup, and a pneumatic tire using the same. A rubber composition containing one or more types of carbon black, wherein the rubber composition is characterized in that at least one of the aforementioned carbon blacks is obtained using stock oil characterized by having a BMCI value of 150 or lower and an aliphatic hydrocarbon ratio of 30 mass% or higher.
