The invention relates to a method and a device for calibrating a color-resolving vehicle camera, said method having the following steps: at least one image is captured by means of the color-resolving vehicle camera. The at least one captured image is searched for at least one signal of a traffic light and, if a potential traffic light signal is found in the image, said signal is classified and verified, i.e. identified. If no traffic light signal is found in the image, the method is continued with a subsequently captured image. A color calibration, in particular a white balance, of the vehicle camera is carried out by comparing the color value of the at least one identified traffic light signal from the captured image with a reference color value for the color of said traffic light signal.
