<p>A gearbox, for use in a wind turbine etc, includes a gear train comprising an input gear 12, meshed with a second gear 13. Second gear 13 is coupled via a lay shaft 14 to a third gear 15 meshed with an output gear 16 mounted on an output shaft 5. The first gear 12 and the fourth gear 16 are mounted for rotation on shafts 2 and 5 by means of bearings 17 and 18. A first synchroniser 19 is rotationally coupled to the input shaft by input shaft splines 9. A fourth gear synchroniser 20 is coupled to the output shaft by output shaft splines 5a and uncouples the fourth gear 16 from the output shaft 5. Shafts 2, 5 are directly coupled by a sleeve 8, mounted on the input shaft 2 via splines 9, which engages sleeve synchromesh 11 fixed to output shaft 5 via output shaft splines 5a. The synchromeshes are actuated by electronically controlled actuators which provide an efficient electronic gearbox.</p> |
