The properties of rubber are improved by addition thereto of latex serum obtained by concentrating the skin resulting from the centrifuging of latex. The skin obtained e.g. by the process of Specification 219,635, [Class 70, Indiarubber &c.], contains about 6-8 per cent of rubber, and the same proportion of serum solids, and may be concentrated to a powder by spray drying, or to a syrup by evaporation, e.g. by the processes and apparatus of Specifications 290,313 and 307,315, [both in Class 70, Indiarubber &c.]. This concentrate may be used alone, or in admixture with rubber moulding powders, etc.; in particular, it may be restored to the concentrate from which the skin was originally separated to obtain a rubber containing the entire solid constituents of the original latex. |
