PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording apparatus capable of appropriately and surely securing a distance between a recording head and a recording medium using a simple mechanism and performing high-quality recording. SOLUTION: The recording apparatus includes a recording material feeder 2 for feeding a recording material downstream sheet by sheet; a recording head 13 for carrying out recording on the recording material; a carriage 10 mounted with the recording head that can be reciprocated in a main scanning direction along a carriage guide shaft 12; a carrier roller 19 comprising a carrier drive roller and a carrier driven roller for carrying the recording material; and a recording material stacker 50 that can take a first position and a second position. The recording apparatus further includes a first link mechanism for displacing the carriage guide shaft, interlocked with the displacement of the recording material stacker. The carriage guide shaft is displaced upward interlockingly when the recording material stacker takes the first position, and the carriage guide shaft is prevented from moving downward as long as the recording material stacker is located in the first position.
