PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a switching power supply apparatus with which it is possible to prevent an erroneous operation of an overload protection function at the time of instantaneous interruption with reliability. SOLUTION: When an overload state is detected continuously for a predetermined period of time T0, it is determined whether V<SB POS="POST">OCP</SB>flowing to a MOSFET Q1 is equal to or greater than an overload determination threshold value that is set to be smaller than an overcurrent threshold value. When it is determined that the V<SB POS="POST">OCP</SB>flowing to the MOSFET Q1 is equal to or greater than the overload determination threshold value, an overload protection function for holding the MOSFET Q1 under an off-state is activated. When it is determined that the V<SB POS="POST">OCP</SB>flowing to the MOSFET Q1 is under the overload determination threshold value, ON/OFF control of the MOSFET Q1 is stopped until a power supply voltage for a controller IC 1 becomes an operation stop voltage.
