The present invention relates to a composition containing an extract of Ligularia fischeri or a compound of chemical formula 1 as an active ingredient for anti-obesity or body fat reduction, and more specifically, to a pharmaceutical composition, health food, skin external preparation, and cosmetic composition, containing an extract of Ligularia fischeri or a compound of chemical formula 1 as an active ingredient for anti-obesity or body fat reduction. The extract of Ligularia fischeri or ethyl caffeate of chemical formula 1 of the present invention was subjected to a test on the inhibition of differentiation into adipocytes, a real-time PCR evaluation, and a western blot assay evaluation by using 3T3-L1 cell lines, which are mouse preadipocytes, and PPARγ and C/EBPα protein production experiments, and as a result, the extract of Ligularia fischeri or ethyl caffeate exhibited an excellent anti-obesity effect and an excellent body fat reduction effect. Therefore, the extract of Ligularia fischeri or ethyl caffeate can be useful as an active ingredient of a pharmaceutical composition for anti-obesity or body fat reduction, health food, skin external preparation, and cosmetic composition.
