PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of forming a multilayer coating film having excellent adhesiveness to a base material, particularly a plastic material and having remarkably excellent weather resistance and scuff resistance and to provide a coated article having the multilayer coating film. SOLUTION: The method of forming the multilayer coating film includes steps for: forming an undercoating film using an ordinary temperature-setting or thermosetting undercoating material composition (I) on a base material; and then, forming a topcoating film using an activated energy ray curing type topcoating material composition (II) containing a silsesquioxane compound (a) which has organic groups each directly bonded to a silicon atom and in which at least one of the organic groups directly bonded to the silicon atom is an organic group having an urethane bond and one (metha)acryloyloxy group and a photopolymerization initiator (b) thereon.
