Thermal/noise management in a scroll pump

Thermally managing a scroll pump that has a stationary plate scroll 220 including a stationary plate and a stationary scroll blade 221 projecting axially from the stationary plate and an orbiting plate scroll 230 having an orbiting plate and an orbiting scroll blade 231 projecting axially from the orbiting plate, where at least one load on the scroll pump is monitored and analysed and wherein the analysis includes determining from the load on the pump whether a new tip seal has just been installed; such that the speed of a cooling fan 400 of the scroll pump is regulated on the basis of the analyzing of the load. The invention relates to a way regulating the temperature of a scroll pump by checking if an increase in temperature is due to friction caused by a new tip seal or not and running a cooling fan a different speeds depending on that determination. A scroll pump with a cooling fan, a cowling, a shroud and a tunnel that act to cool the pump motor is also claimed.
