The present invention relates to compounds and methods for the diagnosis of a Babesia canis canis infection. The compounds provided are polypeptides comprising at least an antigenic fragment of a Babesia canis canis antigen, antibodies that specifically bind to the polypeptides, and nucleic acids encoding the polypeptides. Further provided are compositions, vaccines and diagnostic kits comprising the compounds of the present invention. The compounds of the present invention can be used in methods of detecting the presence of antibodies against Babesia canis canis in a biological sample and in methods of diagnosing a Babesia canis canis infection.
