<p>According to some embodiments, there is provided an image display apparatus including: a backlight, a modulation unit, a calculation unit and a control unit. The backlight includes a plurality of light sources, an emission intensity of each light source being controllable. The modulation unit modulates light emitted from the backlight to display an image on a display region. The calculation unit calculates an amount of motion of a video between a previous image and a subsequent image based on an input video signal. The control unit controls the light sources such that a non-uniform distribution of brightness is obtained on the display region as the amount of motion decreases.</p> |
