The present invention is directed to bicyclic pyrrole derivatives, pharmaceutical compositions containing them and their use in the treatment of disorders and conditions modulated by GPR120. More particularly, the compounds of the present invention are agonists of GPR120, useful in the treatment of, such as for example, Type II diabetes mellitus.

A compound of formula (I) wherein R1 is phenyl; wherein the phenyl is optionally substituted with one to two substituents independently selected from the group consisting of halogen and C1-4alkyl; R2 is fluoro substituted C1-4alkyl; a is an integer from 1 to 2; each R3 is independently selected from the group consisting of halogen, C1-4alkyl and fluoro substituted C1-4alkyl; R4 is hydrogen; R5 is selected from the group consisting of —CH2OH and —C(O)OH; or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.
