A phase change ink composition comprising: an amorphous compound; a crystalline compound; an optional synergist; an optional dispersant; and a white colorant having a volume average particle size of from about 25 nanometers to less than 200 nanometers; wherein the amorphous compound comprises a first ester of tartaric acid of the formula wherein each of R1,R2, R3, R4, and R5 is independently selected from an alkyl group, wherein the alkyl is straight, branched or cyclic, saturated or unsaturated, substituted or unsubstituted, having from about 1 to about 40 carbon atoms, or a substituted or unsubstituted aromatic or heteroaromatic group; and wherein the crystalline compound comprises a second ester of tartaric acid of the formula wherein each of R6 and R7 is independently selected from an aryl or a heteroaryl optionally substituted with a lower alkyl group, an alkoxy group, or a combination thereof, and wherein each n is independently selected from an integer from 0 to 3, or wherein the crystalline compound is a compound of the formula
