A method for controlling the user interfaces within a workflow manager to limit access to configuration and development files in the workflow manager is provided. The method comprises receiving from a user a request to edit a file in the workflow manager, wherein the file is one of a configuration file and a development file. The method also comprises determining whether the user has checked out the file. Additionally, the method comprises providing the user with an editor user interface to edit the file if the file is checked out to the user, wherein access to the files in the workflow manager is available only from within the workflow manager itself, wherein the files are not lockable to inhibit access to the files, wherein the file is available to be checked out to only one user at a time, and wherein the user interfaces in the workflow manager are configurable.

receiving from a user a request to edit a configuration or development file in the workflow manager, wherein the configuration or development file is available to be checked out to only one user at a time, and wherein the configuration or development file is not lockable by the workflow manager to inhibit access to the configuration or development file by more than one user at a time; determining whether the user has checked out the configuration or development file; in response to determining that the configuration or development file is checked out to the user, providing the user with an editor user interface to edit the configuration or development file, wherein access to edit the configuration or development file in the workflow manager is available only from within the workflow manager itself through the editor user interface; and in response to determining that the file is checked out to another user, providing the user with a different user interface to prevent the user from editing the configuration or development file, wherein the different user interface presents a display allowing read only mode for the configuration or development file.
