PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image display device capable of reducing deterioration of picture quality in a case of performing compression processing and decompression processing of an image signal.SOLUTION: An image display device (projector 1) configured as an image display device for performing display based on an image signal includes: an image input part (image signal input part 30) to which the image signal is input; a first filter part 41 for performing filter processing for smoothing the image signal; a compression part 42 for compressing the smoothed image signal to generate compressed data; a storage part (frame buffer 43) for storing the compressed data; a decompression part 44 for reading and decompressing the compressed data stored in the storage part; a second filter part 45 for performing inverse filter processing of smoothing to the image signal decompressed by the decompression part 44; and a display part (image projection part 10) for performing display on the basis of the image signal subjected to the inverse filter processing by the second filter part.
