PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten the time necessary for restarting an engine in a vehicle employing an idle stop system by reducing a time to be spent until the rotation of a pinion gear synchronizes with the rotation of a ring gear during the inertia rotation of the ring gear, without performing complicated control.SOLUTION: There is provided an engine starter of a vehicle employing the idle stop system which causes the engine starter to operate to thereby cause the engine to restart even during inertia rotation of the engine. The engine starter includes: a motor that rotationally drives a pinion gear 7 meshed with a ring gear 8 connected to the engine; a pushing mechanism 4 for moving the pinion gear to a position where the pinion gear is meshed with the ring gear; and a communal plunger drive coil 2 that, when being energized based on a demand for engine restarting, drives a plunger to cause the pushing mechanism to perform the above-mentioned operation and causes an electromagnetic switch to actuate to thereby cause the motor to perform the above-mentioned operation, and furthermore as the motor, a series-wound winding field type DC motor is used. As a result, the time to be spent until the rotation of the pinion gear synchronizes with the rotation of the ring gear during inertia rotation of the ring gear is shortened. |
