PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a production method of a titanium trichloride solution, which is excellent in the production cost, can suppress unnecessary increase in a scale of a production apparatus and can give a titanium trichloride solution suppressing deterioration by oxidation.SOLUTION: The production method is carried out by using an electrolytic cell in which an anode chamber where an anode is disposed and a cathode chamber where a cathode is disposed are partitioned by an ion exchange membrane, and by applying a voltage between the anode and the cathode so as to produce titanium trichloride from titanium tetrachloride. The ion exchange membrane is a cation exchange membrane that permeates hydrogen ion; and the anode chamber accommodates a liquid containing a hydrogen ion source, while the cathode chamber accommodates a titanium tetrachloride solution. It is preferable that a catalyst for a production reaction of hydrogen ion is fixed between a cathode side surface of the anode and an anode side surface of the cation exchange membrane. A porous material is preferable for the anode. The solution in the cathode chamber preferably contains an oxidation inhibitor that inhibits oxidation of trivalent titanium ion. |
