PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading device that can suppress overflow of charge in pixels of an imaging element to suppress a reduction in work efficiency of a user.SOLUTION: An image reading device 3 includes a light source 21, a light intensity control circuit 107, and an imaging element 35. The light source 21 emits light. The light intensity control circuit 107 controls the intensity of the light emitted from the light source 21. The imaging element 35 photographs a subject 40 with the light emitted from the light source 21 and reflected on the subject 40. When the light source 21 is moved relative to the subject 40 to scan the subject 40, the light intensity control circuit 107 controls the light source 21 to irradiate the subject 40 with light while repeatedly changing the intensity of the light emitted from the light source 21 into a plurality of different intensities of light.
