PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress an installation space of a variable valve mechanism small by suppressing a cam nose low.SOLUTION: A variable valve mechanism 1 comprises: an input arm 20 which is pivotally supported by a rocker shaft 9, is pressed by a cam nose 12 of a cam 10, and oscillates; an output arm 30 which is pivotally supported by the rocker shaft 9, oscillates as the input arm 20 oscillates, and drives a valve 6; and a variable device 40 for rotating the output arm 30 with respect to the input arm 20. The variable device 40 comprises: a rotating device for rotating the rocker shaft 9; and a communication mechanism 42 for rotating the output arm 30 with respect to the input arm 20 by communicating rotation of the rocker shaft 9 to the output arm 30 and changes a lift amount of the valve 6. The communication mechanism 42 also functions as an amplifying mechanism which locks the output arm 30 at an angle of oscillation α+&bgr; that is larger than an angle of oscillation α of the input arm 20 by amplifying an angle of oscillation to communicate locking of the input arm 20 to the output arm 30. |
